Celebrating 200 years of gold mining history at Historic Gold Hill, North Carolina. The first gold discovery at Gold Hill, NC was in 1824!
We’re excited about our Bicentennial Celebration! We’re celebrating the 200th anniversary of the first gold discovery in Gold Hill, North Carolina and 200 years of gold mining history. A community-wide event is scheduled for May 31 – June 2, 2024. Saturday June 1st will be the main event day with Traditional Bluegrass and Gospel Music on the amphitheater stage as well as 19th Century Period music at the Heritage mining encampment by the Old Stone Jail in Gold Hill Mines Historic Park. The Carolina Thunder Mugs
Additional music will be provided occasionally throughout the day, by The Carolina Thunder Mugs is a group of historians and Reenactors who has taken their love of history to music. We keep history alive thru song and verse. Our music ranges from the 1500s to 1900’s: Celtic, Folk, Fife and Drum, Mountain, Colonial, and more!!! Every performance is a step back into the past…HUZZAH!!!The Carolina Thunder Mugs will offer period music from the 1500’s to early 1900’s. Check out their Fan Page!
