24th Annual Group Gold Hill Ride for Life – May 25
It’s that time again! We’re excited to host our 24th Annual Ride for Life, brought to you by The Gold Hill Historic Preservation Society, Inc. (GHHPS) and Group Gold Hill. Last year’s ride was rained out, so we can’t wait for good weather this year to get back at it. There will be 25K, 50K and 100K routes and, new for this year, a partial gravel option as well!
Ride History
The Group Gold Hill Bike Ride for Life was the idea of the late Charles ‘Steve’ Helderman of Gold Hill, NC. Steve was an avid cyclist who enjoyed riding the back roads of neighboring Rowan, Cabarrus, Stanly, Randolph and Davidson counties. He brought the idea of the ride to his long-time friend and cycling buddy, Darrius Hedrick. They enlisted the help and support of other Gold Hill cyclists. Soon the plan for the inaugural first ride was underway. The first annual ride was held on Saturday, May 29, 1999. Steve passed away on March 24, 2021. The ride continues in his honor.
The event began as, and continues to be, a fund raiser for The Gold Hill Historic Preservation Society, Inc.. The preservation society oversees the development and maintenance of the infrastructure of the village of Gold Hill. Check out the preservation society website at www.ghhps.org
The ride is scheduled for Saturday May 25, 2024. Check-in will be at Montgomery General Store.
Online Registration will be available on the Gold Hill Historic Preservation, Inc. website at www.ghhps.org.
