History Tours
We offer educational history tours for all ages, schools, colleges, universities, church groups or civic organizations, clubs, etc… We meet at the E.H. Montgomery General Store located at 770 St. Stephens Church Road in the village of Gold Hill, North Carolina. Be sure to wear comfortable walking/hiking shoes. Sandals or flip-flops are not recommended. The history tour takes in the 70 acre Gold Hill Mines Historic Park, the Gold Hill Rail Trail and the village of Gold Hill.
Those who prefer to not walk the tour may view a Power Point Gold History Presentation instead. Gold panning and/or gem & mineral panning may also be added by request for groups of 12 or more. Prior arrangements must be made for the panning and history presentation. Fees apply for guided tours and panning.
A self-guided tour booklet is available at the Montgomery Store for those who are adventurous enough to hike on you own allowing you to proceed at your own pace. “Your Guide to Gold Hill Mines Historic Park and the Gold Hill Rail Trail” contains information for the park’s historic sites and landmarks, the Gold Hill Rail Trail, a history timeline, maps and a brief history of each of the shops in the village. Cost of the booklet is $4.00.
